Green party chair spreads hate. JID calls on politicians to issue nuanced, solution‑oriented statements

The Jewish Information and Documentation Centre (JID) responds with deep concern to the election of Aimen Horch as the new chair of Groen.

In May 2021, Horch posted the following statement on his X account: “Fuck Israel. Fuck the companies that sponsor Eurovision and are on the #BDS list.”

His statements from before the Gaza war show a pronounced hostility and hatred toward Israel—the only Jewish state in the world—and touch on the principle of self-determination. By appointing Horch, Groen is paving the way for an extremist leader with radical views.

Whether one supports or opposes Israeli policy, this does not reflect solution‑oriented thinking, but rather pure incitement of hatred aimed at mobilizing the party base. Is this what Groen stands for with Horch as its new party chair? Groen’s inclusivity apparently ends where the Jewish state and the Jewish right to self‑determination begin.

The causal link between the import of anti‑Israel hatred and the rise of antisemitism should be a point of concern for every political party in Belgium.

We call on politicians and political parties to put forward balanced and nuanced solutions. Statements like these contribute to the trend of rising antisemitism currently seen in our country.

Politicians have the responsibility to unite, not to sow division and hatred.
