JID warns that Mohaned Al-Khatib, a self-proclaimed journalist from Gaza present at the October 7, 2023 terrorist attacks in Israel, is currently living freely in Belgium and traveling without restriction in the Schengen area. JID has submitted a 65-page dossier to authorities with visual material, social media posts, and statements showing Al-Khatib filmed, applauded, and glorified violence. He is seen with terrorists, laughing, pointing at burning houses, and posing with Hamas leaders. Despite this evidence, Al-Khatib entered Europe without security checks and was seen at pro-Palestinian demonstrations in Amsterdam, Ghent, and Brussels. JID calls this a European, not just Belgian, security risk and demands transparency and immediate action from authorities. The full dossier was handed to Belgian police, who have opened an investigation.

JID: Hamas supporter who participated in the October 7 attack, lives in Brussels and travels freely in Europe – serious security risk for Belgium and the EU

The Jewish Information and Documentation Center (JID) has strong indications that Mohaned Al-Khatib, a self-proclaimed journalist from Gaza who was present at the terrorist attacks in Israel on October 7, 2023, is currently residing freely in Belgium and traveling without any restriction through the Schengen area.

The JID has handed over a 65-page dossier to the authorities containing visual material, social media posts, and statements showing that Al-Khatib filmed, applauded, and glorified the violence.

Video footage and photos show Al-Khatib walking with the group of terrorists and civilians who broke through the Israeli border while the massacre in the villages and kibbutzim was still ongoing. He is seen laughing broadly, pointing at burning houses, and posing close to Hamas leader Ismaël Haniyeh. He is also seen together with Hassan Eslaieh, a well-known Hamas propagandist. In various posts, Al-Khatib praises the “once in a lifetime moment” of the massacre and glorifies the abduction of hostages.

Despite this publicly available material, Al-Khatib appears to have entered Europe without any form of security control. He was spotted at pro-Palestinian demonstrations in Amsterdam, Ghent, and Brussels.

“It is incomprehensible that volunteers and citizens could identify this man through open sources, while our security services apparently never noticed him,” says Ralph Pais, vice-chair of JID. “The material clearly shows that he filmed the violence, applauded it, and openly expresses support for Hamas, rocket attacks, and martyrdom.”

The JID warns that this is not a local Belgian problem, but a European security risk. Because Al-Khatib is in the Schengen area, he can move freely to the Netherlands and other EU countries.

“Anyone in Europe who wants to protect synagogues, schools, churches, metros, or events has every interest in ensuring that terrorists do not enter unnoticed,” Pais continues. “This is not a Jewish problem, but a European problem. We demand full transparency about how such individuals gained access to Europe, and immediate security checks by the competent authorities.”

The full dossier was handed over to the Belgian police, who have opened an investigation.
